AI flowcharts
AI flowchart use cases by team
AI flowcharts are most useful wherever processes are already described in text but rarely drawn: operations procedures, onboarding and support playbooks, product specifications, API and integration documentation, and teaching material.
Operations and quality
Operations teams own procedures: purchasing, invoicing, returns, incident handling. Most exist as documents nobody reads twice. Turning them into swimlane charts makes responsibilities and hand-offs explicit and speeds up audits. Start with SOP to flowchart.
HR and onboarding
Hiring, onboarding and offboarding involve many people (manager, HR, IT, payroll) and many small steps that are easy to forget. A chart per process, kept in the HR wiki, doubles as a checklist.
Customer support
Support playbooks are decision trees: "Is the customer on a paid plan? Is the issue reproducible?". Drawn as flowcharts, they help new agents answer consistently. The rules in decisions and loops apply directly.
Product managers
Specifications describe user journeys and business rules in text. Generating the flow from the spec exposes missing cases, such as what happens when a payment fails, before development starts.
Developers and architects
- Document an integration from its OpenAPI specification, with endpoints on the relevant steps.
- Draw sign-up and login flows with their error branches.
- Keep diagrams in the repository as Mermaid code, reviewed like the rest of the code.
Teachers and students
Algorithms and procedures are easier to learn as diagrams. Describing an algorithm in words and comparing the generated chart with your own is also a good exercise; see algorithm flowcharts.
Consultants and analysts
Process interviews produce notes; a first chart generated from the notes gives the client something concrete to correct in the next meeting.
Is it worth it?
If you draw a flowchart a few times a year, a free account is enough: it includes 4 generations, chat editing and PNG export. If diagrams are part of your regular work, the time saved on each chart adds up quickly, which is what the Pro plan is for. Compare the options on the pricing section.
